The main mission of Plants to the People is to make herbs and plants more accessible to low-income, BIPOC, and immigrant communities. We redistribute fresh and dried, locally-grown, organic herbs at no cost for the general public. We set up our distribution events in publicly accessible spaces, most frequently in community parks and along sidewalks in residential neighborhoods. The locations of our distributions are chosen primarily to accommodate working-class people of color; those who have been here for generations, as well as first-generation immigrants and their families.

Plants to the People emerges from a long lineage of people taking care of people. We  re-member the work and care of generations of beloved Aunties, Abuelas, Nonnas, seed keepers, healers, the Black Panthers, the Young Lords, and the Indigenous people of the earth. Plants to the People is here to celebrate and uphold this lineage by sharing opportunities for reconnection and healing in community. As we spend time with the plants together, they help nurture in us an embodied sense of belonging: to the earth, to ourselves, and to the diverse communities we are a part of.
